Overview

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in Great Britain. It lays down clear guidelines and duties for employers, contractors, managers, people in control at work, employees and the general public.

As employers put more resources and emphasis on health and safety, there is an increasing demand for suitably qualified personnel to supervise and manage the H&S practice within a company.

To achieve this qualification, candidates will have to demonstrate that they are able to assess health and safety risks, develop and promote safety control measures and monitor safety control measures are being carried out according to the company’s health and safety ambitions.

Candidates will be assessed to the industry recognised National Occupational Standards (NOS) that have been developed by the Sector Skills Council (SSC).
