Overview

Materials testing plays a vital role in the construction industry by ensuring that structures are built as they were intended/designed. This vocational qualification is aimed at those who are currently employed as laboratory technicians within the industry.

Typical duties include:

  • Concrete pour sampling
  • Concrete cube strength testing
  • Density testing
  • Sampling and testing of bituminous materials

Our assessors will guide and assist candidates towards their Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) through a combination of one-to-one support, group workshops (if applicable) and written/oral assignments. The qualification is based upon a portfolio of evidence compiled from each candidate’s own work records, written experience statements and witness testimony.

Upon obtaining their SVQ certificate of achievement candidates can apply for their Gold (Advanced Craft/Supervisory) CSCS Card. if they have also passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test.

Candidates will be assessed to the industry recognised National Occupational Standards (NOS) that have been developed by the Sector Skills Council (SSC).
